Interesting thoughts. I think increasingly we're trying to find ways to deliver unique content as easily as possible. Mobile is going to change this a lot. I recently installed a mobile theme to automatically load that for mobile devices. So with a brower my site is more of a blog, on a mobile device it's more like a newsreader.

I think the other important branding / blogging thing I'd ad is a call-to-action to gather a list for a newsletter (or direct marketing). That's vital.
