One new development here is Twitter, which has altered the calculus somewhat in the fear one confronts internally concerning a lack of originality, fear of exposure, and other such fears. Nothing like publishing (tweeting) away, observing your own lack of fear of exposure, while at the same time asking yourself: now what would I need to do to turn that into a more developed idea and defend it? If you're observant enough, and persistent enough, this can become a fulcrum that you can use to pry yourself out of a writing rut. Or at least this is my hope, as I haven't actually succeeded in this yet. But I see no reason it can't become another aid in the process.
