I hereby declare this to be "Double Your Blogging Frequency Week."
Mark it on your calendars.
For those of you who know you're not blogging enough to get good marketing results, I'm throwing out the gauntlet.
Will you take up my challenge to you? (Photo credit: Shutterstock)
All you have to do is this:
- Publish a post to your blog, today, right now.
- Then immediately start another post and save it as a draft.
- You have 24 hours to finish it and publish it.
- But once you do, start another draft.
- Repeat for 7 days, until you "get it"
- Keep on keeping on...
It's not hard. It's not even a trick. Even if your schedule interferes with the 24 hour accomplishment, it's okay.
The reason this works, is psychological, having to do with our brains are wired. The brain doesn't like unfinished business. Even if you're forgetful like me, you'll have a signal going off inside your head that encourages you to get back to finish what you started.
I am a psychologist, by training, and I read a lot of books about the brain. So trust me, this works on both a theoretical level and in real life.
I'm curious to find out what you experience once you try this for a week or so. Please hit the comment button and tell me, and don't worry, I'm going to remind you next week.
(I already have a blog post saved as a draft to remind you!)
Question: Do you have an opinion about whether or not a daily blogging habit should include the weekends, or not?

I can see how your method would help develop a habit and maybe even strengthen some writing muscles. But it takes a lot more to learn how to write well. What's more, readers don't want to hear from us as often as we might think, according to recent Jakob Nielsen research which I posted on here:http://barbsawyers.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/are-you-posting-too-often/

Patsy,
I try to set my post writing in the same manner, recently begun doing this. I do not post on the weekends, it gives my brain time to rest, time for my family. I do spend time during the weekend deciding on next weeks posts.

It depends on what your readers think and want, doesn't it? Every community is different. Obviously, quality reigns, and that means staying in tune, relevant, and entertaining as well as educative. I'm just saying that since I've started blogging more frequently, I'm reaching more people and the quality of my posts has improved because I'm getting better at writing. It also depends on your work load/schedule and what rhythm suits you as the blog author. I like the results a daily posting habit gives me, perhaps that's too much for you. Once a week, however, is not going to do you as much marketing good as 2-3 times a week, or as 5-7 times a week (assuming quality is there, of course!)...
