7 Steps to Playing a Much Bigger Game

I was in my writer’s group last week, and our groups’ most successful writer leaned over and whispered to me, “How do you stay motivated and come up with compelling content for your blog every day? I’m struggling…”

“Oh, that’s easy, I just think of all the readers, new clients, and money I lose when I don’t write.” I was half-way joking, but it’s true. If I want to stay successful, I spend 30-60 minutes blogging every day.

Want to know the real truth? And the reason I think she has this trouble staying motivated and sustaining blog energy? She’s not clear. She’s afraid of certain things like what to write, what not to write, how personal, etc.

She hasn’t done the basic preparation work. Before starting any blog, I tell people to sit down and clarify purpose, audience, and a few key details.

If you want to play a much bigger game, then some of those same steps have to be written out for your business and for every project you undertake. My friend struggles with blogging because she’s not clear why or to whom she’s writing.

I’ve spent the last 6 months working out the basic preparatory steps to take my business to the next level, getting clear, writing out answers to such questions. 

I wrote out my biggest fears, my biggest insecurities, and my biggest drivers, my passion. Once I did that, those fears didn't seem so big.

My turbo-charged motivation to blog every day has provided me with a steady stream of energy...and ideas. And, you know what? It's attracting new leads, new clients, new JV opportunities and (ka-ching!) new money. (Love that new money stuff ;-0!)

I think people are afraid to get personal within their blog but I think it is sometimes worth doing so to interact with your audience.
Blogs can be written with a unique style and don't have to follow rules.

I think the advice you gave to that writer was exactly right and hopefully it will help her to gain more inspiration.
