Joe Vitale seems to have got himself bogged down in pseudo-science since his involvement with Rhonda Byrne and her fatuous junk science movie The Secret. I liked his stuff a lot better before that. I hope he recovers.

I so appreciate this review!
While I think it's easy to take stabs at someone like Joe, who's MADE it, so to speak, the points Jon makes are valid.

As a copywriter, I find approaching copy as something that can MAKE someone do something they would normally never do is ludicrous...and insulting. And while language can be very powerful, adding a few well-used phrases can actually hurt the effectiveness of your copy if you're writing for a "been sold too many times" audience.

Thank you for posting Jon's review.

While I agree with Jon's strong review of the good points and weaknesses in Vitale's book, I still see Vitale as an effective copywriter.

Millions were influenced by The Secret and other such philosophies that I don't ascribe to, and you have to consider that surveys show that- I believe more than 1/4 of US population believes in ghosts and other apparitions!

I don't think that makes Vitale wrong or an exploiter since he believes in the stuff he's saying. There's something for everyone, isn't there?

If you know your audience and know they've been sold to many times, then you write to address their objections and concerns.

The true issue is creating an environment that resonates with your readers with the copy you write, and creating a semblance of trust as much you can with words on a screen. You can't do that when you appear you're trying to get them to "do something."
