How do you live in the space you occupy in this world? Today is Blog Action Day and I've got a different rant about environmental issues. It's personal.
While there is much to be done by our governments, I believe each of us must act on an individual level. We're not as conscientious as we could be. Let's take some personal responsibility for our environments.
Clean up our homes, our streets and our habits. Our environment is a direct result of our attitudes and actions. Legislation must be pushed through by citizens who care, AND we could all act more responsibly in our own environments.
I believe that charity and health begins at home and each of us can contribute to a healthy world in our own ways. For myself, I choose not to drink alcohol, take drugs, smoke cigarettes or consume unhealthy foods manufactured in factories and fast food dives... I also believe in taking responsibility for physical health through plenty of exercise.
How are you taking care of your own environment? Do you pay attention to your personal environment? Do you act with care for your home, business and local area? Or are you counting on Al Gore and politicians to clean up after you? Laws are necessary, AND we don't have to wait for them.
Act locally, think globally. Use today, Blog Action Day, to consider how you can improve your own environment.
As always, Brian Clark of Copyblogger wrote eloquently about this problem and what you can do about it; don't mis his post The Butterfly Effect and the Environment.

Hi Patti,
I am trying to do my part with the global franchise community. I did a post challenging the franchise community to replace all of their retail and workplace old fashioned light bulbs. with low energy and very cost effective CFL's. {Compact Fluorescent Light-bulbs} on my blog. here it is!

How am I taking care of my own environment?
Well, after years of inaction, Congress finally has a chance to pass meaningful energy legislation. The bill they are about to pass includes the best fuel economy standards ever (35 mpg by 2020) and a renewable electricity standard (15% by 2020) that guarantees the growth of renewable, clean energy. But there is a chance these two key advances won’t make it through to the final bill.

I am working with a coalition to make sure Congress sends the president a strong energy bill with meaningful changes for our environment and planet. This legislation would be a monumental step toward stopping global warming. Go to http://www.energybill2007.org and sign the petition. This is our chance for real progress, don’t let Congress back down!

It's been about 3 1/2 months since Blog Action Day. It's hard to measure the impact, but I am seeing some of my friends in my industry blog more about "green" building materials.
I might be an odd bird, but I am a Minneapolis real estate agent who thinks that people should consider building their homes out of dirt.
Here's a post I wrote about the wonders of building with "cob." Please share it with your readers any way you wish. I would like to provoke some thinking about this idea.
